My Garden
Some images of my shingle gardens in Christchurch, Dorset. These were designed in 1998 to be low maintenance and drought resistant and are planted using the "Darwinian Principle" (plants either survive or are replaced by others that do).

Neither the front or back garden is watered, apart for the first year with new plants and any container plants.

It is also a Chemical Free garden to provide a haven for wildlife (which is useful for my insect photography!)

The original back garden won an RHS small garden design award (its a 40 foot square plot)and has "mutated" through a series of small annual modifications.

If you would like to know more about designing this sort of garden feel free to contact me

Front Garden in Summer

Front Garden in Summer

This is a small patch about 20ft long and 12ft wide. As its very hot and dry we planted it with Mediterranean style plants which are drought resistantant and provide scent through most of the year.

In the background is the garden I designed and built for my neighbour. This is also designed to be drought resistant and neither garden receives any water in addition to that from normal rainfall

Location: Christchurch, Dorset
